Nigerian Lawmakers Call on Buhari to Reverse Ban on Importation of Cars

The Nigerian house of representatives has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to reverse the suspension importation of cars into Nigeria through land borders by the customs service.

The House on Thursday adopted a motion which urged the executive to ensure that the law enforcement agencies, especially those working at the borders, are diligent in their duties by ensuring the due import charged are remitted to the government.

At the same time the lawmakers suggested that surveillance equipment for effective monitoring to address smuggling be installed in the appropriate areas.

The Nigerian Customs Service had on Monday announced that the ban on importation of new and used vehicles through the land borders would begin from January 1, 2017.
