In a literal display of ‘strength of a woman,’ Kamla Devi, 56, killed a vicious leopard that attacked her while in the bush. She was able to pull this feat, not with a rifle, but with a sickle and spade!

While fetching water in northern Uttarakhand state, she was pounced upon by the leopard. Rather than fleeing, Kamla Devi stood and faced the leopard.

“I fought head on with it for almost half an hour. Then I came to know it was dead,” she told reporters from her hospital bed, according to BBC.

“I thought I was dead but I did not lose patience and courage.”

Doctors think it’s a miracle she survived due to the degree of injuries she sustained.

“She has two fractures on the right hand and one on the left. She also has deep injuries on her head and legs. There are bite marks all over her body,” said Dr Abdul Rahul, who has been treating her.

While attesting to the feat, which occurred last Sunday, Pankaj Bist, a villager who assisted her to the hospital said: “It was around 10 in the morning when she went to the field. A leopard pounced on her.”

“She is very brave. She attacked the leopard and took the fight head on with her sickle.”
